When the microprocessor is in control, the wireless communication device can send or receive radio signals.


One application for smart sensors is for self-diagnostic purposes. The first applications of smart sensors were more oriented towards outdoor applications. Today there is as much interest in the automotive industry for indoor applications as well. The reason is that there is much more work that needs to be done in this area. Smart Sensors may be used for self-diagnostics, OBD remote control programming, and multi-tasking while the vehicle is in motion. The final application for smart sensors is for base sensor applications.


One of the most interesting areas where smart sensors are finding new applications is the automobile repair industry. Many problems are easily solved by using this type of sensing equipment. For instance, there are problems with air pressure, leaks in pipes and ducts, and moisture.
