Coil coating Is How the Coating Material Is Applied to the Strip of Steel or Aluminum

Coil coating is a continuous process in which specialty coatings are applied to steel/aluminum coil before fabrication into end products. The coating material is applied to the rolled metal strip in a continuous and/or automated process. Coil coating makes use of effective principles, such as coating, pre-painting, pre-priming, pretreating, and cleaning sheets of aluminum or steel or flat metal coils in a continuous operation. Topcoat, back coat, and primers (available in a wide range of colors and finishes) are applied to aluminum or steel rolls.

In the coil coating process, aluminum or steel coil is coated continuously at a predetermined stage before fabrication. The coil is first brought to an uncoiled state and then the coil is painted or re-coated according to specific requirements. There are different methods of coatings such as electroplating, electrostatically coated, and galvanized. Coil-coated products are used in many industries, such as the construction and architectural industry, where pre-painted metal is used for facades, roofs, gutters, ceilings, and a variety of ancillary components.

Thus, with the rapid growth of the construction and architectural industry, the demand for coil coated products is also increasing, in turn, increasing the demand for coil coating worldwide. According to the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), India, China, and the United States are expected to account for almost 60% of all global growth in the construction sector by 2025. In the coil coating process, the coil is first unwound, pre-treated and cleaned, applied on a flat continuous sheet, heat-cured, cooled, and rewound for shipment.

Coil coating is applied on the rolled metal strip in a continuous process which includes cleaning (if necessary) and chemical pre-treatment of the metal surface. The coil coating process has been around for several years and allows companies to produce durable and attractive products. Coil coating is also referred to as pre-painted metal, because the metal is painted before, rather than after, fabrication.
