The PET bottle market is growing due to the increasing use of PET as a packaging solution. PET is used to encase items like beverages, food, and other items. PET bottles for beer are becoming increasingly popular in Eastern and Central Europe. They are popular across numerous end-user sectors for lower transportation emissions and resources in the supply chain because they are lighter than glass and metal ones.
Technological innovations and development of new products is
contributing towards the growth of the global PET bottles market. For instance,
in October 2018, PTI Packaging Systems launched Dromo PET bottle system, which
is specifically designed for semi-viscous or liquid products such as household
chemicals and personal care products. Dromo PET bottle is 75% lighter in weight
as compared to conventional personal care PET bottles, and is designed to be
inserted into a rigid, reusable dispenser.
One of the primary reasons impeding the growth of the PET
bottles market is the regulations put on the use of PET bottles
for alcohol. For example, under the bill on modifications to parts 1 and 2 of
the Tax Code and particular legislative acts of the Russian Federation, the
production and sale of alcoholic beverages in PET bottles was outlawed in
Russia in January 2017. Furthermore, rising concerns about environmental
contamination caused by plastics such as PET are another stumbling block to the
market's expansion. However, increased PET bottle recycling reduces the impact
of this restriction.
