Nurse call systems consist of two main elements, namely, customer service and mobile devices. The server consists of a software application that interacts with the customer database. The customer database contains information about all patients who have already been assigned to one or more nursing services. The server also interacts with the mobile devices of end-users such as nurses and doctors and learns relevant information from the calls made by this medical personnel.
Generally, hospitals' staff members are trained on how to use their particular nurse call buttons. However, if the mobile device has no external buttons, the staff member will not know how to push a specific button to make a phone call. This may result in the person hanging up when they answer the phone. Thus, a nurse call button allows them to call the next patient if they need to. Although nurse call systems come in different types, the most popular ones include Mobile Station (MST), which is perfect for small hospitals that do not have enough space for a dedicated receptionist or a line nurse. Most MSTs come equipped with a variety of features including auto attendant, speakerphone, intercom, touchscreen controls, and much more.
With more healthcare facilities looking toward saving money and streamlining operations, many are realizing the value of integrating a nurse call system into their facility. In turn, residents are appreciative of a feature that helps them connect to the right person no matter where they are located in the facility. Another huge benefit is that when staff members have access to a live person, they are better able to respond to emergency calls promptly. Recently, in December 2019, Tunstall Healthcare launched a new nurse call system Tunstall Careroom, for elderly patients.
